Instant Pot Turkey Penne with Marinara

I’ve got a super easy recipe for you. I’m talking an Instant Pot Turkey Penne with Marinara recipe. Yum!

However, it is easy to make quick meals that are full of flavor with the Instant Pot!

Have you heard of the Instant Pot? It is a wonderful kitchen appliance.

It is a pressure cooker and infuses so much flavor into the foods you cook in it!

We bought one around Christmas time (here is the one we bought) and I wasn’t sure if we would use it very often. Honestly, we have a slow cooker and I am not great at remembering to use it! I was afraid this would be the same way.

It was not! We use it all the time.

Instant Pot Turkey Penne with Marinara

At first I was nervous to make certain foods in the Instant Pot, but it so easy to use I’m not sure why I was scared.

One of my go-to meal prep recipes is this Instant Pot Turkey Penne with  Marinara.

I knew you could cook pasta in the Instant Pot, but since I had never done it I didn’t want to screw up and end up with penne stuck to the pot!

No worries, the pasta came out perfect! Now this Instant Pot Turkey Penne with Marinara is one of my favorite recipes to make during meal prep.

Instant Pot Turkey Penne with Marinara

You only need a few ingredients for this healthy recipe too!

I served my Instant Pot turkey penne with marinara with roasted zucchini, but feel free to substitute broccoli, cauliflower or salad.

The awesome part about the Instant Pot is the  pressure it puts on the foods really infuses into everything. Delicious!

You will sauté the onion and garlic, then brown the meat. Next, you’ll add the rest of the ingredients and cook it all on High for 5 minutes. You’ll quick release the steam, take the lid off and let it sit for another 5-10 minutes. Those extra minutes let the pasta soak up more of the liquid.

Then you will divide the Instant Pot Turkey Penne with Marinara into four meal prep containers, allow them to fully cool and refrigerate.

It is that simple, I promise!

Instant Pot Turkey Penne with Marinara

Serves: 4 Cooking Time: 45


  • 1 lb Jennie-O Italian Seasoned Ground Turkey
  • 4 oz whole wheat penne
  • 2 cups marinara
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup yellow onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, divided
  • 5 small zucchinis
  • salt & pepper to taste



Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray.


Dice the zucchini and spread on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with 1/2 Tablespoon oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.


Roast zucchini in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove and allow to cool.


While the zucchini cooks, turn the Instant Pot on and use SAUTE mode.


Add the rest of the oil, onion and garlic to the pot. Cook until onion becomes translucent. Be careful not to burn the garlic.


Add the turkey and cook until brown and no longer pink. Turn the Instant Pot off.


Add the marinara, chicken broth and penne to the pot and stir. Place the lid on securely.


Turn the Instant Pot on and cook on HIGH for 5 minutes. Do a quick steam release and once all the steam is out, carefully remove the lid.


Stir again and allow to sit to soak up the remaining juice (about 10 minutes).


Serve immediately or divide among four meal prep containers. Evenly divide the zucchini among those same containers. Garnish with parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes and/or chopped parsley.


If you can not find Italian seasoned turkey, then use regular ground turkey or ground beef and add 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning and 1 teaspoon salt.
